I don’t offer support with 11+ or entrance exams.
Who am I?
I’m Melissa (she/her). I qualified as a teacher of Secondary English in 2013 and taught for many years in a busy secondary school. I’m passionate about subject knowledge and the cognitive science behind reading comprehension. Alongside classroom teaching, I mentored ITT students, provided coaching and compasionate support for colleagues, delivered CPD, delivered training sessions for our local university based ITT provider, led literacy across the curriculum, and was active with union activities and action. In 2020 I completed master’s level research in vocabulary aquisition and reading comprehension.
In 2022 I left my job as a school based teacher and embarked upon self-employment, becoming the founder of my own tuition business. Setting up my tuition business allowed me to focus on child-centred, individualised and compassionate support, and design a working life that fits with mine and my family’s values and needs.
In my spare time I volunteer with two charitable organisations, facilitating peer support groups. I love spending time with my daughter, reading, writing, crochet, walks and enjoying a good coffee shop!
